Health Article Review/Summary
8TH grade
Two health article summaries will be required throughout the
quarter.
REQUIREMENTS:
1. Students need to find current health articles from the
newspaper or magazine. (Newspaper or magazine articles found on the
Internet may also be used.) The Poughkeepsie Journal, NY Times, LA
Times, and Washington Post are examples of newspapers that may be
used. Magazines such as TIME, Newsweek, Health, and Current Health
are also good sources. Several of the newspapers and magazines can
be found online.
2. The whole article MUST BE HANDED IN with the written summary
or the paper will not be graded. Please be sure to include the title
of the article and its source on the summary.
3. The student�s name and the date should be clearly written on
the article and the accompanying summary.
4. On a separate piece of paper, students should write out the
article title, source, and a paragraph summarizing the article. They
should also write out a reaction statement. The summary and reaction
statement should answer the following questions:
a) What was the main idea of this article? DO NOT restate what
the article says. DO summarize the article in YOUR OWN words what
the article is mostly about. Make sure you give me the who, what,
where, when etc.
b) What facts and details support that main idea?
c) What was surprising, shocking, interesting, etc. about the
article to you?
d) Was there anything you learned from this article that you
did not know before?
e) How does this article relate to health? (Specifically how
does this article relate to your personal health?)
f) Is there any advice you could give to the person/s in the
article what would that advice be?
5. The summary should be written in blue or black ink. If you
are going to type this reaction summary please include a hand
written rough draft.
6. Students need to write the summary using complete sentences,
proper grammar, correct punctuation, and proper spelling.
ONLINE/EMAIL SUBMISSIONS ARE ONLY FOR STUDENTS NOT IN ATTENDANCE THE
DAY THE ASSIGNMENT IS DUE AND ARE SUBMITTING IT ON THE DUE DATE.
