Education has always been a priority in my family. My mother taught
elementary school in Yonkers, New York. My father was an administrator in
the New York City School system.
I earned my BA and MS degree in Spanish and Education from Iona College, New
Rochelle, New York. I also hold a Doctor of Chiropractic degree from New
York Chiropractic College.
I began my teaching career in the Greenwich Public School system in 1976,
where I taught Spanish, grades 7-12.
I have one son, Matthew, who holds a BA degree in Psychology and a MS degree
in Counseling from Mercy College, Dobbs Ferry, New York. He is currently
working for the Recreation Department for the city of Rye, New York. His
goal is to become a school guidance counselor.
Matthew got married last November, 2006. My daughter-in-law, Cathy, has her
college degree in Elementary Education. She is currently enrolled in a
masters degree program and this September, 2007, she is starting her first
teaching job as a first grade teacher.
I enjoy sailing, kyacking, cooking, gardening.
My goal is to make the study of the Spanish language relevant and meaningful,
focusing on how Spanish is used in our community and how students will be
able to apply their knowledge of the language in their future lives and
careers. My lessons focus on the four fundamental elements of language:
reading, writing, listening and speaking. I seek not only to focus on
academics but also to make the classes interactive, challenging and fun!
