Happy New Year! I hope everyone has enjoyed the time off and will be ready
to get started with a wonderful 2010. I want to remind you that we have a
four day school week when we come back. School will begin for the children on
Tuesday the 5th. Teachers will be in meetings on Monday the 4th of January.
We will be starting math timed drills this week using a program called
Rocket Math. To help prepare your child to do well using this program there
are a few things you can do. First buy or make addition flash cards and
practice them every night. You should begin with the simple combinations,any
number plus 1,then any number plus 2, and so on. Work on introducing about
two new combinations at a time and add more as they are learned. The children
love learning the combinations and playing the timed math drills. However, I
have found that without practice at home children can quickly fall behind.
About 10 minutes of practice a night will really make a big difference!
