How does one learn about Cawthra Park's Regional Arts Program (RAP)?
The infomation process begins each year in November with a tour (Fri.
November 2 by staff and current students to speak to students at
senior elementary schools in Mississauga. We then host an Open House
evening November 14. The evening consists
of two presentations in the Auditorium (7:00 p.m. & 8:00 p.m.).
Again current students perform and staff briefly explain the program
to potential students and their parents. During the time visitors
are not in the Auditorium, they are encouraged to pick up
application/audition packages in Gyms A/B. While in the gym, they
meet arts staff, talk to current parents and view a powerpoint
presentation about the program. Students are also available to
direct visitors to the studios.

How does Cawthra's RAP application/audition process work?
Applications for auditions are picked up on the evening of our November 14,
2007 Open House or in the days following. Applications are accepted either
for entry into Grade 9 or for entry into Grades 10-12. The completed
application forms are submitted by specific due date prior to the Christmas
Holidays. For entry to audition for Dance and Drama, applications are
due on Dec. 10. For entry to audition for Music and Visual Arts,
applications are due on Dec. 11.
Applicants are then scheduled by our staff for auditions in
late January. For 2008-2009, they will be held during the day between Jan.
28 and 30.

How does one hear about the results of Cawthra's RAP auditions?
A review of the January audition results is done by the arts staff
in early February. Students accepted will receive a letter indicating this.
These letters are mailed out in early February. Students offered a
place in the program are required to confirm their intention to attend by
Feb. 27. A Parents Busing Info Meeting will be held in April. An
Orientation Day will be held during the day on Tuesday May 6.

How big a school is Cawthra Park?
Our school enrolment is 1400 students. 33% come from our immediate
community in southeast Mississauga. 67% come from over 40 different
elementary schools from across the City of Mississauga in order to
attend our Regional Arts Program.

How is the school day organized at Cawthra?
Cawthra Park is a fully semestered school. Students study 4 courses from
September to January and another 4 courses from February to June. Our
school hours are 8:30 a.m. to 3:04 p.m. Each day is made up of five 75
minute periods. Periods 1 and 5 flip on a Week 1/Week 2 schedule.

What courses does Cawthra Park offer?
Cawthra offers the full Ontario Curriculum Grades 9 to 12 necessary
for an Ontario Secondary School Diploma. What makes us unique is
that we offer extensive arts options and the Peel District School
Board's Regional Arts Program. Our curriculum prepares our graduates
for the workplace, college and university.

What are the students and staff like at Cawthra Park?
The students are a tolerant and supportive group. They are very
focused on school and are prepared to be creative risk takers with
their learning. The staff are caring, enthusiastic and supportive.
They are committed to high expectations for achievement of students.
They are well connected to their professional and artistic

What are are Cawthra's graduates like?
We are very proud of our graduates. They receive on average over 45
entrance scholarships per year. Approximately 38% of the graduates
are Ontario Scholars. 25% of our graduates enter the Fine Arts at
the post secondary level. 30% enter the Sciences. 35% enter the
Humanities and Social Sciences.

What facilities are available at Cawthra Park?
Our building is fully accessible with a new 3 storey elevator. Our general
school facilities include classrooms, science labs, computer labs, a triple
gymnasium, a library resource centre, a career centre and a cafeteria. Our
specialized facilities include a newly renovated auditorium, makeup &
dressing rooms, a newly renovated Technology Suite that includes studios
for set design & construction and communications technology & media arts,
renovated dance studios with Harlequin sprung floors, renovated drama
studios, visual arts studios, a newly renovated dark room, a digital
photography lab, music rooms, practice & rehearsal rooms, state of the art
recording studios and a midi computer lab. Last, but not least, a community
swimming pool!

Who is eligible to audition for the regional arts (RAP) program?
Students who reside within the Region of Peel are eligible to audition or
apply to regional programs in the Peel District School Board.
