How about Kathy Tappen?

It's not often in life that you come across an entity that is truly great - a
means by which all others (of its kind) - should be measured.....
We have that very thing in AMBLER WEEKDAY NURSERY SCHOOL!

Our family has relocated 5 times in our 14 years of marriage. Each of our
three children has been born in a different state, and we have been exposed
to 5 different nursery school environments. All of them nice, but none of
them compare to the loving, caring, nurturing environment of Ambler Weekday
Nursery School.

The teachers and staff are there, not because they don't know where else to
go; but because they want to teach our children! They are gifted with
patience, kindness and best of all - boundless energy. Our school is
impeccably clean and full of colorful reminders that our little ones enjoy
each day's gift at AWNS.

Thank you First Presbyterian Church of Ambler for making our children's
education and well-being, a long standing-mission.

How about Maureen Michels?

My children have had wonderful experiences at AWNS. The environment is very
nuturing, creative and one that fosters learning. I feel lucky that I
discovered AWNS for my two younger sons. I wish I had known about it for my
oldest son too.

How about Cherise Pons?

I would like to take a moment to comment about your programs and how they
have impacted my four children. This is simply because of your fabulous
staff. Everyone is inviting and patient.....a challenge met, for sure.

Your program has touched each of my children in a different way. They have
been able to blossom in their own time and have come out of AWNS finer and
fuller children. Your program, then, has helped my husband and I create the
environment where a good family can thrive with the help of the community.

What does Lenka Kolar have to say?

My older daughter, Karolina Kolar, attended Mrs. Pickell's class last year
and she loved every minute of it. I was extremely happy with the way Mrs.
Pickell treated each child and how much they learned and grew.

How about Tricia Carter?

Choosing AWNS for our children is one of the smartest decisions we've made
for our girls. The school strikes that perfect balance of pre-school fun and
spontaniety with gentle lessons of independence and responsibility. Our
daughters have begun their educational lives with a true enthusiasm for
learning and a greater understanding of who they are. We are indebted to
Ambler Weekday for giving them the opportunity to grow in this special way.

What did Marcia Martin say in the December, 2007 "Minute for Mision"?

Greetings! Each Christmas season we have an opportunity to provide support
for the Ambler Weekday Nursery School through our Christmas Eve offering.
The money collected goes directly into the school's scholarship fund that
this year provided some tuition reimbursement for 24 children.

While this is the third year that I have had the privlege to tell you
something about Ambler Weekday, the school has actually been telling its own
story for over forty years through its nurturing of children from our
congregation as well as those from the surrounding community. From its
inception in 1965, the school has been a mission of the First Presbyterian
Church of Ambler - in other words, the school is us. Last week, I spent time
at the nursery school and I want to share with you just a bit of that
experience.

At a time when many children are being pushed to achieve so much academically
and socially at such a young age, it was a pleasure for a couple of hours to
be a part of a community with balance, with perspective. Don't
misunderstand, there was a great deal of learning and teaching going on but
it occurred within a context that allowed the children to construct much of
their own knowledge through play and community building as well as through
more structured lessons. When I arrived in the classroom, the children were
painting in the letters and numbers that formed Happy 2008. The children had
the freedom to paint in their own style within those lines - any colors and
any designs. Children who finished their letters or numbers quickly,
immediately started to help another child and soon six children were
collaborating on the number 2. Following some free time in which puzzles
were completed, costumes were donned, and dance moves were created, the
children reviewed letters and while this exercise is guided by the teacher,
each child had the opportunity to intorduce a letter, the associated sound
and a word. In the process, Issac discovered that if he turned his upper
case H on its side, he had the first letter of his name and soon Ns became Zs
and Ss became race tracks. Finally, the children each took a set of colored
bells and played three Christmas carols with great exuberance and joy.

In the short time I spent in the Pre-K classroom, children learned that
freedom often occurs within boundaries, collaboration can be both fun and
efficient, letters and sounds can be understood in all sorts of creative
ways, we all need a little music in our lives, and every now and the, we all
need a break to just play. I observed rich examples of teaching and learning
where children were give an oppurtunity to give birth to their own ideas in
an environment that was safe and supportive as well as instructive. The
children's experience reinforced my belief that while what you learn is
important, how you learn and how much you are encouraged to infuse yourwelf
into that learning is critical. Everyone - the teachers, the children and
the guest were engaged.
