Exciting times are happening in our classes!
- What are the M/T Red Bears (2 yr. old Toddlers) doing this month?
- What are the Th/F Blue Bears (2 yr. old Toddlers) doing this month?
- What are the Rainbow Fish (3 yr. olds) doing this month?
- What are the Busy Bees (older 3's & 4yr. olds) doing this month?
- What are the Dinosaurs (older 4's doing this month?
- What are the Pre-K Terrific Turtles doing this month?
What are the M/T Red Bears (2 yr. old Toddlers) doing this month? October flew by and the holidays are right around the corner!
The children had a wonderful time this month learning about fire
prevention and with all of our Fall and Halloween crafts, songs
and activities. We hope you enjoyed our Halloween program. The
children really did have lots of fun singing the Halloween songs
even though they were a little shy with all the parents there!
With the holidays quickly approaching, November is going to be a
busy month for the baby bears. We will spend lots of time
talking about family and what the children are thankful for. We
encourage you to talk about this with the children at home as
well. We will also continue working on learning our colors,
shapes, counting and name recognition.
We will have picture day this month! We ask that you send the
children to school in their normal school clothes and shoes. The
blue bears will get their pictures taken on November 13th and the
red bears will get their pictures taken on November 16th.
We will celebrate Thanksgiving at school by having a Thanksgiving
Feast. The blue bears will have their feast on Friday November
20th and the red bears will have their feast on Tuesday November
24th. We will post a sign up sheet for the Thanksgiving Feast on
the bulletin board outside of the classroom along with a new
snack sheet for November. We are so thankful for your continued
support!
We will continue to go outside even though it’s starting to get
very chilly. Please remember to send your child to school with a
hat, scarf, mittens, etc. We do prefer mittens over gloves
because it can be very difficult to get their tiny fingers into
gloves.
*We want to remind you that the Red Bears do not have school on
Monday, November 30th.
If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to
call or email me. We want to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving!
Sincerely, Miss. Lauren and Miss. Benita

What are the Rainbow Fish (3 yr. olds) doing this month? October turned out to be a wonderful month! The children have
settled in to the routine with us, and we have been able to do a
lot with them. Most of them are good at sitting still at circle
time, and enjoy taking turns with the calendar and flag. They
are working on learning to pass napkins, cups, and snack. We had
fun working on our autumn projects, and the children are excited
about Halloween! A big thank you to the parents who came to
carve jack-o-lanterns with us. The children enjoyed it, and did
a great job sorting out the seeds. We are hoping they will also
enjoy the cooked seeds we bring in for them. We will have both
salty and sweet to try.
November begins a very busy and fun filled time of the year. We
will talk about the letters V, C, and Q while preparing for
Thanksgiving. Thursday, November 5 will be a day for tasting
vegetables as we talk about nutrition. Please sign up on the
classroom bulletin board to bring in a raw or cooked vegetable.
We can usually get everyone to try most of the vegetables!
Pajama Day will be on November 19. Please send your child to
school in their pajamas, and bring a favorite bedtime story. We
will read as many as possible. If your child would like to wear
slippers, bring shoes to school for going outside.
We will have music on November 6. Picture Day is November 13;
envelopes for picture orders will come home soon. It is best to
dress your child as they would normally dress to come to school.
Show and Tell will be that same day. Your child should bring
something they are thankful for. Please help them to think about
why they are thankful for what they choose to bring to show and
talk about. The sign up sheet for our Thanksgiving feast will be
posted soon.
As we are all beginning to think about what we are going to
purchase for holiday gifts, I would like to suggest Scholastic
Books. The books are a great value and a gift that can be
enjoyed over and over. Ambler Weekday benefits from your
purchase by qualifying for free books for the school as a result
of your purchases.
We are concerned about safety in the parking lot, and would like
to gently remind you to drive slowly and refrain from using your
cell phone in the lot. There are many children present, and it is
very important to be extra careful.
In an effort to keep everyone healthy this winter, we would like
to try to keep sick siblings out of the building as much as
possible. If one of your children is home sick and needs to come
along to preschool in the morning, please call the church office
(215-542-9993) and let us know. We will meet you at the door or
your car to greet the healthy preschooler and take him/her up to
class for you. You may also choose to send him/her up with
another parent if you prefer.
Please remember that we go outside in all weather but the rain,
so send in the appropriate hats, mittens, coats, and boots, if
needed, to school. Mittens are much easier than gloves! We
would like you to encourage the children to put these things on
by themselves at home.
Please remember to look at the calendar for daily updates.
Everyone has been great about remembering everything. THANKS!
Your children appreciate it and so do we.
Sincerely,
Aleta Bossert and Sue Plunkett
What are the Busy Bees (older 3's & 4yr. olds) doing this month? October turned out to be a wonderful month for all of us! We had
lots of fun working on all of our autumn projects. Hopefully you
noticed all of the cutting your children did on their owl
projects. When they bring their artwork home, take a minute to
look at it! They were shown a sample project, and glued their
pieces together the way they thought they should be. We tell
them it is like a puzzle! The children are really excited about
their Halloween program, and we hope you all enjoyed it.
Hopefully the trick-or-treating will be a great success!
We are very thankful to the parents who came to carve jack-o-
lanterns with us. The children enjoyed it, and did a great job

November begins a very busy and fun filled time of the year.
Thanksgiving will be here before we know it. We will be reading
a special story about the pilgrims and the Indians. I will read
it a small section at a time as we learn the story. Along the way
we will talk about letters V, C, Q, and Y, and will be working on
several projects, including doing something fun with popcorn. We
also plan to put those oatmeal containers to use!
Picture day will be on November 16. Packets will come home
soon. Please dress your child as they would normally come to
school. Show and Tell will be on November 3 (bring in anything
you choose) and 17 (bring a favorite bedtime story).
Music will be on November 10 and 24; Peter Moses has been a big
hit with the children! There will be a nutrition program on
November 4.
For letter “Q” week, we will have a pajama party. Please send
your child to school in their pajamas on Tuesday, November 17.
We would like to be able to go outside, so try to work out
something that can be worn with shoes. If they come to school
with slippers, we can help to change them in to shoes before we
go out. Also, please send in a favorite bedtime story as their
show and tell. We will read as many as we can.
The sign up sheet for our Thanksgiving feast will be posted in
the hallway. Thank you very much for bringing things in for us.
We will wear pilgrim and Indian hats that we make in class to
celebrate. By then we hope to be able to hear the children tell
us what they are thankful for; it will be a topic we will bring
up to them at various times throughout the month. It is a good
thing to talk about at home!
As we are all beginning to think about what we are going to
purchase for holiday gifts, I would like to suggest Scholastic
Books. The books are a great value and a gift that can be
enjoyed over and over. Ambler Weekday benefits from your

of your purchases.
Just a reminder: there is no school or Lunch Bunch on Wednesday,
November 11. School will also be closed on November 30. The
teachers have in service days on both of those dates. If you
would like to sign your children up for Lunch Bunch, please do it
quickly. Some dates are already full! Also, please note that
there will be no Lunch Bunch on November 25.
We are concerned about safety in the parking lot, and would like
to gently remind you to drive slowly and refrain from using your
cell phone in the lot. There are many children present, and it
is very important to be extra careful.

What are the Dinosaurs (older 4's doing this month? October certainly was a busy month. We continued with our
letters of the week and everyone is getting better at playing our
homework guessing game. We learned how mixing colors can create
other colors, and touched on our namesake – dinosaurs. We had a
visit from the fire department, had a fire drill, sang with Mr.
Pete, and made lots of Halloween decorations. We will continue
with the letter F,G, H, I and J in November so keep the homework
coming!
We ended the month with Halloween and lots of stories about
witches – we even think a friendly witch or two visited our class
and played some tricks on us, but that’s o.k. we got rid of her
by making and eating a magic potion - actually an ice cream
soda.
And now that you have filled your house with Halloween candy,
we’ll switch gears and begin to talk about healthy foods and
nutrition. We’ll be setting up our grocery store during the
letter G week, we’ll start our food shopping and preparing for
our Thanksgiving feast. We actually have an “extra” week for
Thanksgiving prep so who knows what we may do!!!
We’ll learn about different kinds of houses, including teepees,
talk about being thankful for so many things in our lives and
we’ll learn about the first Thanksgiving. If anyone has a large
box – appliance-size – we can take it off of your hands and turn
it into a house in the new lands.
November is guaranteed to be another busy month! Hope you’re
hearing stories about our days in class. If you need ideas of
what to talk about at home, check out our newsletter or the
website to get ideas or just ask us for suggestions. Trust us,
there have been many subjects already covered!
Have a very happy Thanksgiving!
Mrs. Pickell & Miss B.

What are the Pre-K Terrific Turtles doing this month? November is the time to be thankful for all of our special gifts
and we will be discussing this in school. We will also stress
the importance of our family to each of us. We will discuss all
types of families and extended families.
We will spend the month talking about the Pilgrims and the
important role the Indians played in the first Thanksgiving. We
will also discuss the Mayflower and life on the journey across
the Atlantic. We will learn about life as a pilgrim as well as
life as an Indian. We will cap this off with a feast on
Wednesday, November 25th complete with Terrific Turtle pilgrims
and Indians!
Speaking of our menu and cooking.......November is our “Good
Nutrition Month.” Each week will be devoted to a different food
group. Our schedule is:
Week of Nov. 2 -Fruit
“ 9 -Dairy
“ 16 -Veggies
“ 23 -Meat
We will be making real Indian corn bread and Stone Soup We
will have a fruit tasting party and then go into the Turtle
Voting Booth and VOTE for our favorite fruit. If you could make
your snack correspond to the Food Group of the week that would be
great!
MATH: We are currently in the process of assessing the math
skills of the children. I am testing them on their number sight
recognition as well as their ability to count out a specific
number of objects. Some of the children are doing quite well
with this. Many others need to work on their skills. I would
suggest you have them count at home. They can count pretzels for
a snack, forks and spoons at meal time, steps as they climb them,
etc. If at all possible, place the numbers on index cards and
ask your child to count out the appropriate number of items for
you. Practice helps!
SCISSORS: The Turtles have done a few cutting projects so far
this year. While many of them hold their scissors correctly and
have good control, some are having great difficulty Please
continue to work with your child to practice their cutting. The
best way to do this is to give them a piece of paper and let them
cut away! Once they have mastered the cutting motion, (thumb
up!!!), you can draw lines on the paper and ask them to cut along
these lines. Cutting coupons for Mom is also a wonderful way to
practice. Let’s hope Santa puts some safety scissors in the
stockings!
NAMES: Most of the children can write their name. If your child
cannot write their name without a helper card, please practice
with them at home. We will continue to do this each day at
school. Please continue to practice holding the pencil/marker in
the correct way!
LETTER OF THE WEEK PAPER: We do a paper each Monday that
reinforces the recognition and phonetic skill for the letter of
the week. If we feel that your child needs additional help on
these skills, we will make a copy of their paper and send it home
for you to see. Please take the time to help your child with
this.
NOVEMBER LETTERS OF THE WEEK:
“Tt”..........Nov. 2 - 6
“Ii”...........Nov. 9 - 13
“Vv”….....Nov. 16 - 20
Review…..Nov. 23 - 25
Reminder: Every Tuesday is Homework Tuesday. Please make sure
your child’s NAME is on their homework and their homework is
placed in the Homework box. Their ABC Books are coming along
just great! There will be NO HOMEWORK on Tuesday, Nov. 24th.
≈≈≈≈≈We will be making Indian Shirts. Please send in a LARGE
white T Shirt no later than Friday, November 6th. We will be
painting them so an old shirt from Dad or an older brother is
just fine. If you have not already done so, please send in a salt
or oatmeal container by 11/6.
**********************
As you can see, we are going to have lots and lots of fun this
month. We are enjoying your children immensely. It is so much
fun to come to school each day. We wish you and yours a very
Happy and Healthy Thanksgiving.
Gobble, Gobble!
Terri and Dottie
Be sure to check the November, 2009 calendar on the back of the
Newsletter.
November promises to be a very busy month!
We will be making a Thanksgiving mobile this month.
It is a great visual teaching tool for the Thanksgiving story.
Make sure to ask your Turtle to tell you the Thanksgiving story.
