Throughout the first quarter (Mondays and Tuesdays) we will be focusing on the
Lean On Me: Unit One from our textbook. Students will be asked to read the
short stories and answer comprehension questions on the stories. We will also
be working from our PSSA Coachbooks (Wednesdays). During the remainder of the
week, the class will be reading Swallowing Stones, written by Joyce McDonald
(Thursdays and Fridays). Quizzes and tests on all material will be given
throughout the quarter. Throughout each of the four quarters, the students are
responsible for maintaining their class binder for a final grade at the end of
each quarter.
Homework/ Tests/ Quizzes/ Projects
-The class will have our textbook, Lean on Me unit exam on Monday and
Tuesday, October 19th and 20th.
-Chapter 3 Coachbook practice test (pgs. 92- 95) will be due next
Wednesday, October 21st.
-Students will have a Quarter 1 project, in which they will be creating a
tombstone just in time for Halloween. Students have been given a rubric to
follow and encouraged to use creativity while remaining within the realm of
appropriate content for school. The project will be counted as a test grade.
Students are advised not to spend money on this project. The students
tombstones will be due on Tuesday, October 27th, along with a brief (2 minutes
or less) discussion on their tombstone.
-Chapter 4 Coachbook practice test (pgs. 108-109) will be due Wednesday,
October 28th.
- Chapter 5 Coachbook practice test (pgs. 123-125) will be due Wednesday,
November 4.

-Binder Check Tuesday, November 3
