A.P. Literature and Composition Examination*******The Examination:********
•Measures student's abilities in reading, anaylzing, and writing about literature • Three Hours in length • Mutiple- choice questions * 60 Minutes long * 45 percent of the total grade * 50 to 60 questions on four different passages from poetry and prose * 2 prose texts * 2 poetry texts * Selections from 16th to 20th centuries * Women and minority writers often included * Odds are against having read the selection * Spohisticated vocabulary, intimidating and extremely difficult *****• Essay Questions***** ^ 120 minutes long ^ 55 percent of the total grade ^ three essays @ 40 minutes each ( 2 are free response/ 1 is an open-ended question) **¨Free Response:** * One poetry Excerpt * One prose excerpt from an essay, shorts tory, or novel * Questions concern the attitude of the author toward the subject or theme and how the stylistic devices show that attitude **Open-ended Questions:** * Consists of a directive an da listof possible classic novels and plays from which to choose • Approximately $75.00
******Tips for the Exam:******* ***Essay Section:*** * Read each questions closely and underline impornatnt parts * Always have an introduction and conclusion * Support your argument and answer the entire question
***Multiple Choice :*** * Scan- don't read the questions * Read it quickly to get an idea of the subject matter * Read closely and mark or underline the passage * Answer the questions carefully * don't guess unless you can eliminate one choice as obviously incorrect
