HEALTH EDUCATION 10th Grade
Course Expectations:
During the course of the year you will be introduced to a variety of
important and valuable information. The material presented will educate you
about issues that might occur in ones lifetime.
Class Rules:
* Arrive on time to class or points will be deducted from the Quarter grade.
* Absolutely NO gum, food, or drink will be allowed in class.
* Be prepared for class with notebook, necessary worksheets, and writing
utensils. ( Bring them to class---You won't be allowed to go back to your
locker).
* If you miss a class or part of a class, it’s your responsibility to seek
the work missed from another classmate or the teacher, as soon as
possible.
If you have prior knowledge that you will be absent on the day a project,
assignment or test is scheduled or due, please inform me prior to that date
so alternate arrangements can be made. If work is not handed in on the due
date you will receive a grade of zero for that work. ( No exceptions).
Enough time is provided for projects etc.. You can also place work in my
mailbox in the office.
* Be respectful of the teacher, your classmates, and yourself.
* PERIOD # 7 CLASS----If anyone has detention, come to class 1st and then go
to detention.

Grading:
* You will be graded on several things throughout the year.
1. Tests/Quizzes
2. Attendance
3. Classroom Participation (Individual work, Small group work, Class
discussions)
4. Out of class assignments (Projects and Presentations)
5. Current events
Newspaper or Magazine articles
(Note: Extra Credit assignments will be available)
PHYSICAL EDUCATION Grades 9th-10th-11th-12th
Class Expectations/Rules
* NO food, beverages, chewing gum or tobacco products are allowed in the
gym area.
* All students will remain in the gym and wait for the bell.(No lobby/steps)
* Any injuries or emergencies must be reported to the teacher.
* NO student can leave the class, gym or locker room without teacher
permission.
* Headphones, radios, beepers, IPod's, M3Players and cellular phones are not
permitted.
* NO permission slips to make-up work, take tests, pass bulletins or do
projects in other subjects will be honored. ( Only school issued programs—
sports, trips )
* NO student is allowed in the equipment room without teacher permission.
* Directions must be followed the first time they are given.
* When entering the gym NEVER touch the equipment.
* Abuse, destruction or misuse of physical education equipment will not be
tolerated.
* Obscene language, gestures, harassment or disrespect will not be tolerated.
* All equipment when called for will be brought over to the equipment room
and placed in the proper containers ( not thrown).
* All other school rules will apply in addition to the above.
* Do not come to gym from regular classes, study halls or if you have a
substitute teacher.
*Any misuse of PE equipment, profanity, skipping class or walking out will
constitute an automatic detention or greater consequence according to the
student handbook.
Proper Dress for Class
* Sneakers (tied) with socks, Sweatpants, Sweatshirts, Tee shirts, and
shorts are acceptable.(No HOODIES)(Shorts 2" only above knees).
* NO jeans, pants exposing underwear, baggy pants or short shorts, spandex
outfits, skirts or head coverings ( hats, caps, bandanas).
* NO shirts with drug/alcohol advertising or inappropriate language or
graphics, midriff tops, low-cut or see-through tops, tank tops, tube tops,
undershirts or thermal wear.
* NO sandals, high platform shoes, flip flops, boots or shoes with hard
soles.
* NO keychains or wallet chains.
Appropriate actions will be taken and points deducted if rules/dress are not
followed. The teacher has the final say as to what is acceptable or not in
class. ( Teacher follows student handbook).
Participation Excuse
* Two class missed will be given for each half of the year including
absences. After the two missed classes thsy will have to be made up. NO
parental notes are necessary.
* If you have a Medical reason for not participating in gym Please provide
a Doctor’s Medical Excuse at the time of illness or injury. Please have
the Doctor state the dates and what you can or can't do.
* A student well enough to be in school is well enough to be dressed and
participating in class. Any exception to this will be handled on an
individual basis.
* All Period # 7 classes:
If a student needs to be excused before or during 7th period, the
student must provide the office with the appropriate note and be noted on
the computer.
Grading:
* A daily grade will be given based on the following:
1. Getting to class on time
2. Following directions
3. Actively participating throughout the class
----warm ups
----skill drills
----game play
----fitness activities
4. Exhibiting proper care and use of equipment
5. Exhibiting self-control and use of cooperative effort
6. Attaining specific daily and unit objectives
7. Using appropriate language
8. Treating classmates and teachers with respect
9. Participating in a safe and effective manner
10. Staying in class until dismissal
FAILURE TO PERFORM IN THESE CATEGORIES WILL RESULT IN LOSING DAILY POINTS.
Work for Medical Excuses or Emergency Excused Absences from Class
* This will be discussed with the teacher and assigned on an individual
basis. Alternate assignments may include: internet research ( papers),
topic related articles ( packets), help with team scoring etc..
Physical Education Procedure
* Change in appropriate locker rooms ( bring clothes—you cannot go back up
to locker in main area).
* Come to gym, line up or get into groups for roll etc..
* Warm-up, explanation of activity, then the activity.
* Return equipment to designated area.
* Teacher will dismiss students to change.
* Students return to gym until dismissal of class ( NO waiting in Hallways,
Stairwells, or Locker rooms).
* Leave all valuables in main locker or at home.
Special Note to 7th Period Students: If you have a Dr. appointment etc.,
have to go to work etc., you must bring in a note, take it to the office in
the morning and it will be posted on the computer. We cannot give you
permission to leave--only the office has that authority.
If you have DETENTION: you MUST come to class FIRST, then go to detention.
If you miss PE class and go to detention, you must make the class up.
