Third Grade has been off to a great start! It was wonderful to see so many parents and grandparents
at Community Visitation. The children are into the swing of the school year and establishing classroom
routines.
The third grade students have been busy with the culminating activities of our structures unit.
Students presented their bridges and discussed thier plan, any changes that need to be made, and what
they learned from the experience. The bridges were very creative and neatly designed. Great job third
graders!!
An upcoming math activity will involve the use of pumpkins. This activity deals with predicting,
graphing data, and comparing our results. We have also started our unit Flips, Turns, and Area. In this
unit we reinforce the understanding of area and space.
We will integrate our social studies and language arts by reading Molly’s Pilgrim. The children will
explore differences between modern day and traditional Pilgrims.
In Writer’s Workshop, students have been busy filling their writer’s notebooks, and becoming
familiar with the structure of the workshop. We have begun to work on leads, and continually explore
mentor texts for samples of author's craft.
Students will begin a unit of study on geography by learning and applying map skills in Social
Studies. We will continue to reinforce the importance of the pillars of characters in third grade.
Most recently, we focused on citizenship through voting. Students elected student council
representatives. Congratulations to those that were nominated, as well as elected to represent each
classroom!
