Sanders Math Secrets

As many of my students know, I really love math. But I also understand some
children view math with fear and true dislike. In order to alleviate these
feelings, here is a list of secrets to be successful in math class.

1. TAKE NOTES!! Students are given definitions and examples of the material
we work on in class. Then, students have a chance to work on individual
problems. While students are solving the problems, I walk around working one-
on-one with students.

*****HINT - This will make homework less stressful.******

2. SHOW THE WORK!! ***THIS IS A MUST!!*** I can't stress this enough.
Showing the work serves two purposes. First, this shows students' strengths
and weaknesses, and where I need to focus my attention. Second, showing work
counts towards the total points. I give a point for the correct answer and a
point for showing the work.

3. NO CALCULATORS!! Students need to understand the process rather than
punching in numbers on the calculator.
