| Dyer Jr. High Cheerleaders Soar at
UCA Cheerleading Camp
The Dyer Jr. High Cheerleading squad just returned from Murray State
University where they attended the UCA Cheerleading camp. During this
eventful four days they learned numerous cheers, stunts, sidelines, dances
and the value of leadership. Individual awards where given nightly to the
girls who exhibited outstanding teamwork and dedication. The Dyer Jr. High
Cheerleading squad consists of 8th graders : Melviena Hayes, Anna Lovell,
Autumn Greene, Mallarie Riffe, MacKenzie Hobson, Courtney Churchwell, Faith
Abbott and Kara Gilmore; 7th Graders : Kathryn Cox, Ashley Dempsey, Lexi
Whitley, Sarah-Catherine Thornton. The first night two “Outstanding Awards”
were given, one to Sarah-Catherine Thornton and the other to Kara Gilmore
for their hard work on day 1 at camp. The second night two “Outstanding
Awards” were given, one to Autumn Greene and the other to Mackenzie Hobson
for their great attitude and leadership to the team. The third night
four “Outstanding Awards” were given to a particular stunt group in their
ability to work together, their willingness to help others and great
attitude throughout the day. This stunt group included Faith Abbott, Anna
Lovell, Kathryn Cox, and Ashley Dempsey. We also had six girls try out for
the All-Star cheer squad. Just trying out is an honor and an
accomplishment. Those girl trying out for All-Stars were Mallarie Riffe,
Courtney Churchwell, Melviena Hayes, Anna Lovell, Autumn Greene, and Kara
Gilmore. Two girls, Mallarie Riffe and Courtney Churchwell, made the All-
Star team. They were extended an invitation to participate in the Walt
Disney World Thanksgiving Tour November 25-28, which includes a pre-parade
performance at the Magic Kingdom.
In addition to the individual awards, the Dyer Eagle squad excelled. The
Dyer Eagle squad competed with seven other Jr. High Squads. We received all
Superior blue ribbons for our Home Pom dance, crowd cheer, extreme routine,
final cheer evaluation and final extreme routine evaluation. We also
received trophies during the awards day. The squad received 1st place in
the Home Pom dance and 3rd place for our crowd cheer during Camp Champs.
They received a trophy for Outstanding-Superior Squad, which is given to
squads that receive exclusively blue ribbons throughout camp week. This
award allows our squad the opportunity, should we choose, to cheer in the
Capital One Bowl Pre-Game Performance in Orlando, FL on December 29, 2008.
The Dyer Eagle squad also received spirit sticks two nights during camp and
received a spirit stick on awards day due to our awesome Spirit throughout
the week.
The Dyer Eagle squad is coached by Mrs. Jessica Riffe and Mrs. Mindy Thomas.
