Class Procedures

SUPPLIES You must have your binder with you every class. You will
be issued a textbook to keep and use at home.

BEGINNING OF CLASS When you enter the room, take your assigned
seat and begin the Bell work Assignment (definitions, questions,
etc.). You should not talk. Write down any necessary notes from
the board in your planner. Once you are in the room, you are in a
learning environment and you have a task.

SHARPENING PENCILS Pencils may be sharpened before the bells rings
or during independent work. You may not sharpen your pencil during
Bell work, lecture, note-taking, or class discussion.

OBTAINING THE TEACHER’S ATTENTION If you need to communicate with
me, raise your hand and wait until I acknowledge you.

HOMEWORK You will have homework frequently, please refer to the
assignment sheet handed out at the beginning of each six weeks.
Homework is due after we have reviewed and checked the work the very
next class period.

MOVEMENT IN CLASS You should stay in your seat unless given clear
instructions to move about the room. During independent work you
may sharpen your pencil. You will throw away trash at the end of
the period as you leave. If you need to speak with me, raise your
hand and wait for me to respond.

FOOD, DRINKS, GUM You are not allowed to have food, drinks, or gum
in the classroom. None.

PASSING PAPERS IN AND OUT We will pass papers to the left or right
across rows instead of up and down the columns. Those on the end
should place the papers in alphabetical order.

BINDER Your binder should be neatly labeled on the outside with
your name and our team name. The binder needs to be organized as
follows: Inside the front-of-binder clear pocket: put the team
calendar. Inside the binder, in order, put these items: 1st: pencil
bag;   2nd: Team Restroom Pass (put in a plastic sheet protector);
3rd: put in 4 dividers. Label the dividers in this order: English,
then Math, then Biology, then Geography. After each subject
divider, put a plastic sheet protector. Inside each plastic sheet
protector goes the classroom procedures for that class. Keep the
binder updated and organized. This is a requirement.

ABSENT WORK After an absence, you must obtain the work you missed
the first day you return to school after your absence. The work you
missed will be in your period tray at the front of the room. You
need to get it. You need to come to my class during tutorials. Do
not wait for the next class! You have a limited amount of time (see
the school handbook) to make up your missed work.

LATE WORK If an assignment is submitted the very next school day
(1 day late), your maximum score is 80. If the assignment is
submitted the next class period (2 days late), your maximum score is
60. Assignments will not be accepted after this. If you have not
done an assignment and answers are given in class, your maximum
score is 60.

GRADES I discuss grades before or after school, not during class.
Grades will periodically be posted on the wall in class. Tests
(usually 2 per six weeks), participation, and the team notebook
count as 50% of your grade. Daily and quizzes count as the other
50% of your grade.

HALLWAY Often I will speak with a student in the hallway. This is
done for a variety of reasons. When I am in the hall with another
student, it is your responsibility to continue to work quietly and
appropriately. When the student leaves the room or returns, you are
to make no comments.

DISMISSAL I decide when it’s time to put supplies away near the
end of the period. The bell does not dismiss the class. I do. You
will be allowed to leave promptly if the room is clean, everyone is
seated, and everyone is quiet and attentive for any final remarks.

RESTROOM PASSES You have 6 minutes to go to the restroom and
your locker between classes. Each 6 weeks you will have 2 restroom
passes for Geography. These may not be used during 20-20, group
discussion, note-taking, or lecture. Permission to leave class is
completely at my discretion. Any misbehavior while outside the
classroom or misbehavior in the classroom may result in the complete
loss of your restroom pass privilege.
