--------------------------------------
What is BCIS?
BCIS is a full-year technology class. BCIS stands for Business Computer
Information Systems. The class focuses on the Microsoft Office package, and
students will learn the programs Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint.
--------------------------------------
What is Accounting?
Accounting is a full-year elective in which students learn the basics of
tracking the finances of a business. Students learn how to journalize,
post, complete financial statements, and control the cash of a business.
--------------------------------------
What is Accounting II?
Accounting II is a full-year elective in which students continue their
education of the finances of a business. Students learn how to account for
inventory, salaries, cost of merchandise sold, depreciation, and many more
aspects of a public business.
--------------------------------------
What is Recordkeeping?
Recordkeeping is a full-year elective in which students learn to budget,
write checks, track the cash flow of a business, and become efficient
recordkeepers.
--------------------------------------
What are the prerequisites for BCIS?
To take any technology class, you must have a Keyboarding credit. You can
do this by either taking (and passing) the sememster-long Keyboarding class,
or testing out of the class.
--------------------------------------
What are the prerequisites for Accounting?
You must be at least a sophomore to take Accounting. Basic math skills are
needed for this class.
--------------------------------------
What are the prerequisites for Accounting II?
You must have taken Accounting I, which would make you at least a junior.
Although not necessary, it is recommended that you take Accounting II the
year directly after Accounting I.
--------------------------------------
What are the prerequisites for Recordkeeping?
There are no prerequisites. Any grade level can take this course.
--------------------------------------
Do I need technology classes (BCIS) to graduate?
All students need one full-year technology credit to graduate. BCIS
fulfills this requirement.
--------------------------------------
Do I need electives (Recordkeeping, Accounting I and II) to graduate?
All graduation plans require some amount of elective courses. Recordkeeping
is a good, basic class to take to learn how to budget, write checks, and
keep track of all cash. Accounting is an excellent course if you are
interested in studying any form of business post-high school.
--------------------------------------
Are these classes semester classes?
All three classes are full-year classes. It is possible to earn a half-
credit for Recordkeeping in the fall, or to enter in the spring for a half-
credit elective. It is NOT recommended for a student to try and enter
Accounting I or II in the spring semester.
