Attention All Students!
Welcome to a new semester! I'm looking forward to this new time for learning
and sharing. We will begin the new term with two new units of study: poetry
and short stories. You will read poems, discuss poems, and even write poems.
Perhaps one of you is the next Emily Dickinson or William Shakespeare just
waiting for your poetic flair to spring forth.
Our first round of short stories will center on Gary Soto, a contemporary
writer of Hispanic heritage. We will read and analyze several of his stories,
some which were based on his own life experiences and people he knew while
growing up.
We will continue with Future Problem Solving and have our competition on
February 9th during 2nd, 3rd, and 4th periods. This is the State Bowl
Qualifier. Hopefully, some of the teams will be invited to Austin to
participate in the Texas State Bowl.
I keep you all posted on the next unit of study when we get there.
