Puttin' Out Fires

Fire Extinguisher Lab

Learning the proper technique for
operating a fire extinguisher may
save lives someday.

- Unhook the hose (if there is
one)
- Break the beaded seal (it's
easy)
- Hold the extinguisher by the
  handle.
- Hold the hose firmly at the
  nozzle.
- Aim at the base of the fire.
- Squeeze the lever.
- Move the hose in a side to side
  motion (not up and down).
- Use it all.
- Run like H---!

Unloading the Equipment

We used a truck load of
extinguishers on lab day.

Bote de Fuego

The fire bucket, or bote de
fuego, represents the fire.
Students were expected to aim at
the base of the fire to put it
out.

It was tempting to spray the
flames, but we learned that the
action takes place at the base of
the fire.

Fuel, heat, and oxygen combine
there to start the blaze. The
purpose of the extinguisher is to
remove oxygen, one of the main
ingredients, and stop the burning.

Perfect Day for a Fire Lab

Mrs. Squires' class joins us for
our fire extinguisher lab. After
explaining the procedure to both
classes, everyone got to practice.

Someday, somewhere, this may save
lives.

Holding the Hose

The firefighter shows how to hold
the hose at the tip for accurate
spraying.

As the minister said,'Let us
spray'.

Aim at the Base

A fine example of effective
firefighting skills. Well done.

Flames Leaping Into the Sky

Fires can be deadly. Knowing what
to do helps us keep a cool head
when faced with danger.

Proper Preparation Prevents Poor
Performance.

Remember the rule of the five P's.

Get 'R Done

Practice Makes Perfect.
