Hello again,
We are currently studying the atmosphere and the hydrosphere (air and water).
There would be no fresh water, or weather for that matter, if it were not for
the energy from the sun. The sun sets everything in motion despite gravity's
effort to stop it.
Since this is the beginning of a new year (2009), we will reflect on Why Are
We Here? This actually can be summed up by the Stevie Wonder song mentioned
in the the unit on life. I have added more of the lyrics to the song in the
passage below. They are not fancy, but they get the point across.
Education is more than learning various subjects. It moves us toward being
the adults we are meant to be.
LIFE UNIT
Stevie Wonder (I remember when he was simply Little Stevie Wonder), sang a
song of significance which applies well to this unit. It was Moving On.
There's a place in the sun where there's room for everyone,
Where my poor, restless heart's gotta run.
There's a place in the sun, and before my life is done,
I gotta find me a place in the sun.
When we finish, each student will clearly understand how all things fit
together in this web of life. More importantly, each person will begin a
journey to find their own place in the sun.
May I add that Stevie Wonder had already become famous by the age of ten?
Although he was blinded at an early age, he had a vision of what he wanted
to become. It is vision that directs us toward our destiny.
Get a vision. Get a life.
Science is for life. In this case we can call the unit 'Life Science'.
Note: Please set aside a few moments to inspect the Agenda and the Homework
Folder. Students are expected to bring them home each night so you can see
how they are progressing.
Mr. Peters
