HELLO THEATRE 1B--

THIS IS OCT 6TH

DRAMA 2 STUDENTS HAVE ALL SELECTED THE MONOLOGUE THEY WILL BE WORKING WITH 
OVER THE NEXT COUPLE OF MONTHS FOR THE WORKSHOP SERIES.  IN ADDITION TO 
PREPARING THEIR MONOLOGUES FOR PERFORMANCE, STUDENTS WILL BE CREATING A 
MONOLOGUE PACKET OF INFORMATION.  THERE ARE SPECIFIC EXERCISES WITH EACH 
WORKSHOP THAT WILL REQUIRE WRITTEN WORK WHICH WILL BE ADDED TO THE PACKET.  
THESE PACKETS SHOULD BE KEPT WITH THE STUDENTS UNTIL PERFORMANCE TO AIDE THEM 
WITH PERFORMANCE.  SO FAR THEY SHOULD HAVE READ: ABOUT THIS BOOK, AND THE 
INTRODUCTION.

THIS WEEK WE WILL BE WORKING ON THE CHARACTER HISTORY.  THIS IS THE FIRST 
WORKSHOP.  STUDENTS NEEDED TO CREATE A 3-5 PAGE HISTORY ON THEIR CHARACTERS 
BASED ON QUESTIONS THEY ASK ABOUT THE FEELINGS AND THOUGHTS THEY FEEL THEIR 
CHARACTER IS HAVING IN THEIR MONOLOGUE.  THE HISTORY SHOULD INCLUDE BASIC 
INFORMATION ON NAME, AGE, WHERE THEY LIVE ETC.  IT SHOULD ALSO HAVE AN 
ACCOUNT OF THEIR FAMILY HISTORY, FRIENDS, AND MOST IMPORTANTLY EXPERIENCES 
THE CHARACTER HAS HAD WHICH HAS CREATED THEIR BELIEF SYSTEM.  THIS IS VERY 
IMPORTANT IN UNDERSTANDING HUMAN BEHAVIOR.  WE HAVE DISCUSSED THAT IT IS VERY 
DIFFICULT TO TAKE ON THE ROLE OF SOMEONE YOU DON'T REALLY UNDERSTAND IN AN 
AUTHENTIC WAY.

TODAY WE BEGIN THE "CHARACTER HOT SEAT." IN THIS EXERCISE STUDENTS WILL TAKE 
A SEAT IN FRONT OF THE CLASS WHO WILL ASK THEM QUESTIONS ABOUT 
THEMSELVES...THAT IS THEMSELVES AS THE CHARACTER.  EACH STUDENT WILL HAVE THE 
TASK OF ANSWERING THESE QUESTIONS AS THEY BELIEVE THEIR CHARACTER WOULD 
HAVING NO IDEA WHAT WILL BE ASKED OF THEM.  THIS IS JUST AN EXERCISE TO SEE 
IF THEY CAN ACTUALLY STEP INTO ROLE AND THINK AND FEEL AS THEY BELIEVE THEIR 
CHARACTERS DO AFTER HAVING WORKED ON THEIR HISTORIES.  WE WILL BE WORKING ON 
THIS WORKSHOP FOR MOST OF THE WEEK.
