We will study "The Compositions of Mozart's Mind", a non-fiction
essay by Howard Gardner.
What is the theme of A CHRISTMAS CAROL?
Dickens's theme in A CHRISTMAS CAROL is that with a little help, man
can be reclaimed from misery. When he was a boy, Dickens had a hard
life; he had to work in a factory under the supervision of people who
treated him like dirt. His family was never there for him and his
father was arrested. Charles Dickens was miserable a long time into
his life but by looking back on his past, exploring his present and
envisioning his future, he finally found happiness.
Dickens's creativity blossomed and he started writing masterpiece
novels. In the book, Ebenezer Scrooge goes through a similar
procedure but Dickens metaphorically uses the three spirits to
represent self-reflection and projection. Dickens wrote A CHRISTMAS
CAROL partly as a novel for people to read, but mostly as a chance to
discover more about himself.
Derick Rossell
In terms of opinions, people are infinitely diverse. Some like red,
some like blue, some Brigham Young, some U. of U. One thing that
everyone seems to agree on is who's a grump, a miser, a misanthrope.
One of these is Ebenezer Scrooge.
Scrooge is a perfect example of the dark side of humanity. He is
rude, arrogant and obsessed with money. Yet with the help of a few
ghosts, he is transformed. His entire personality is altered in a
single night, which goes to show even someone like Scrooge can be
reclaimed.
