Welcome

Welcome to our school! Our mission is to educate the whole child. We believe that all children can excel at academics, and that activities and citizenship are just as important. Our students know that we have high expectations for them, and they strive to meet them. We welcome involvement from parents and the community.

Principal's Corner

The newness of the 09/10 school year has given way to the busyness that characterizes November and December. In November we proudly salute and honor our soldiers on Veterans' Day.. It is also the month that marks the end of the first quarter when parent teacher conferences are held and report cards are sent home. And finally-it’s the time of year that we stop to give thanks for the opportunity to work at Evergreen and to serve our very special families.

December is the shortest month of the school year because of our two week Winter Break. Although we maintain our strong focus on academics, this is a time when many fun activities complement our academic program. More information will come home with your child regarding specific school and classroom activities.

As always, it is my sincere hope that you feel like a valued member of the Evergreen community. We know that our families face many challenges and that this time of year can be stressful as well as exciting. Please don’t hesitate to let us know how we can support you.

Mrs. Holly Shaffer

At pick-up or drop off if you wish to leave your car, please park in a space so cars can move as students are escorted to their parents vehicles. As always we ask for patience as we want all drivers and walking children to be safe. Thank you for your support!

H1N1

Do your part to prevent the H1N1 virus
As you probably know, the presence of the H1N1 virus or “swine flu” is expected to increase this fall and winter. Like other respiratory diseases, it is spread from person to person through coughs and sneezes. Clover Park School District is working closely with the Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department to keep students and staff members safe in the event of a flu outbreak in our schools and offices.

Here’s what you can do to stay healthy:
• Get vaccinated against seasonal flu now and H1N1 flu when it is available;
• Wash your hands often with soap and warm water, especially after you cough or sneeze. Wash them for as long as it takes to sing the "Happy Birthday" song twice;
• Use alcohol-based hand gel (equal to or more than 60 percent alcohol), if soap and water are not available. Remember to rub the hand gel into your hands until they are dry;
• Stay at least six feet away from sick people;
• Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze (or cough into your elbow);
• Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spread this way; and
• Keep surfaces that are touched often clean by wiping them down with a household disinfectant. If the surfaces look dirty, scrub them with soap and water first. Then wipe them down with a household disinfectant. Follow the directions on the disinfectant label.

If you or your child(ren) get sick with flu-like symptoms stay home until at least 24 hours after fever has gone away (without the use of fever-reducing medicines). Be sure to call 253-583-5251 to report absences and be sure to mention that he or she is sick with flu-like symptoms.

For more information about H1N1, visit the Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department’s Web site, www.tpchd.org.
