Dear Families,

We are very excited about the wonderful recognition our Hudtloff students and staff received in the Tacoma News Tribune. Hopefully you were able to see the article on the front page of the February 2nd edition. I am very proud of the great children and families that we serve. I am very grateful to our wonderful staff for ensuring our kids get the best education every day!

As we begin a new semester, I would like to remind you of a few of our behavior and dress policies. We reviewed our policies with all students during the first week that we returned from Winter Break. We expect our students to be courteous and respectful of each other as well as the adults around them. Please remember that we do not allow boys to sag their pants. We also do not allow students to wear clothing that is more than four inches above their knees…even if they wear leggings under them. Students are not allowed to wear clothing with holes or tears in the fabric above the four inch point…even with something under them. No revealing clothing is allowed. The school policies can be found in your student’s agenda or on our web-site.

If your student is in seventh or eighth grade, please complete the College Bound Scholarhip form that was mailed to you and return to the school as soon as possible. This ensures that your child will be eligible to receive $40,000 in tuition to a Washington State college or university.

Students who have earned grades of C- or higher in all classes will celebrate PRIDE Day (Personal Responsibility In Developing Excellence) on Friday, February 19. Please join us from 1:50-3 pm in this school-wide social event. We will continue to acknowledge students positive citizenship and academic focus at our Awards Assembly on Monday, February 22, in the gym. The assembly for 8th grade begins at 8:40; 6th grade at 9:40; and 7th grade at 10:40. Please join us!

Parents and students are invited to the Lakes High School Family Forum on high expectations. The forum will be held Sunday, February 21, from 1:30-3:30 in the Performing Arts Center at Lakes HS, 10320 Farwest Drive SW in Lakewood.

Also, all are welcome to attend Hudtloff MS Band and Choir recitals at 7 pm in our school cafeteria. The sixth grade recital is February 8th, the seventh grade recital is Feburary 9th, and the eighth grade recital is February 10th.

Our Hudtloff PTSA will meet in the library on Tuesday, February 9th at 6:30. All parents are welcome to attend.

Please remember to vote on the upcoming Clover Park School District School Construction Bond on February 9th.

Families encouraged to apply for free and reduced meals throughout the school year

Clover Park School District families can apply for the free and reduced meal program anytime throughout the school year. Families can also update existing applications in the event of job or income losses, which may make them eligible for additional assistance.

In October 2008, the income eligibility requirement for Basic Food, formerly known as food stamps, increased to 200 percent of the federal poverty level. This increase enabled more families to qualify for free meals.

For information about Clover Park School District’s free and reduced meal program qualifications, contact the student nutrition department at 583-5490. For information about the Basic Food program, contact the Lakewood Community Service office of the Department of Health and Social Services at 476-6800.
