Dear Families:

The school year is drawing to a close and it has been an incredible year with your children. Thank you, for your ongoing support of our school and of your child. The building is almost all complete with most of the remaining construction outside. As you probably noticed, the drive-ways and parking lots are nearing completion. With this, there will be a change of parent drop-off beginning Tuesday, May 28. The parent drop off and pick up entrance will be the other entrance from the current one. There will be a loop for you to drive in to the front of the building and continue by circling out again.

We are initiating a new opportunity for parents to be involved at Hudtloff via a national program called Watch D.O.G.S. (Dads of Great Students). This program invites dads (and other male role-models such as grandfathers, family friends, uncles, etc.) to actively volunteer in their child’s school at least one day during the school year. Mr. Eric Drummond, father of a sixth grade student at HMS has volunteered to organize this program for us. The kick off for this event is June 6, at 6 pm. All interested dads and their child are invited to attend. RSVP by calling Mrs. Heath at 583-5410.

We are nearly finished with the state assessment, Measure of Student Progress (MSP) and will begin Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) next week. These assessments are very significant to how we place students for the next year so please encourage your child to do their best. All students enrolled in algebra will take the State End of Course Exam for Algebra (EOC) on Wednesday, June 5, and students enrolled in geometry will take the State EOC exam for Geometry on Thursday, June 6. Students must meet standard on these two exams in order to be recommended for high school credit in these courses.

Our Memorial Day Assembly is Thursday, May 23, beginning at 9 am in the gym. Please plan to join us. Enclosed is a form for you to complete if you would like to have someone you know who died in service to our country be recognized at the assembly. Please return the form to the main office by Tuesday, May 21.

Our Eighth grade Awards Assembly is June 14, at 5 pm and will be followed by an eighth grade dinner and dance. We hope all parents and families of our eighth grade students will attend. Students may not participate in these events if they have an out of school suspension during 4th quarter, any Fs, or unpaid fines.

Our Sixth and Seventh grade Awards ceremony will be the last day of school in the gym, June 19. Seventh grade is at 8:40 and sixth grade is at 9:40. We will not be able to send a letter to alert you if your child is receiving an award as there is not enough time to do this due to grades being entered up to the second to last day of school. Please plan to attend.

Sincerely,
Moureen David, Principal

Mother-Daughter Technology, Engineering, and Aptitude Event

Upcoming engineering event pairs mothers, daughters-and lots of fun

Hudtloff Middle School will host a Mother Daughter Technology Engineering Aptitude (TEA) event on Wednesday, April 17th from 4 to 7:30 PM in the school cafeteria. This free, interactive evening event is designed to teach sixth, seventh, and eighth-grade girls about the many career opportunities in the engineering industry.
After a brief introduction, students will be presented with fun information and hands-on activities familiarizing them with team-building and engineering concepts. Midway through the event, dinner is served. During the second half of the event, more hands-on activities and group projects are introduced.
The event is for sixth, seventh, and eighth-grade girls and their moms (or a female relative/guardian) and space is limited, so register early! Students should have received a registration form from their math or technology teacher. Additional forms are located in the main office. Please return completed forms no later than Friday, April 12th.
For more information, contact Mr. Will Leslie at 583-5400 or wleslie@cloverpark.k12.wa.us.

Hudtloff recognized for School of Distinction

For the third year in a row, Hudtloff has earned special state recognition as “School of Distinction” for being in the top five percent of most improvement over a five year period compared to all other schools in Washington State. This means a great deal to all of us as it indicates that we are on the right path for providing our students with a rigorous education that will prepare them for citizenship, college, and careers. This recognition is sponsored by Phi Delta Kappa, The Center for Educational Effectiveness, and other state organizations.
