This project helped students learn more about their own state as well as
many of the other states in the USA. Students were asked to decorate a "GINGY"
boy or girl with something that represents the state in which they live.
This is how we proceeded:
First we got white and red paper. Then we got a piece of brown paper.
Next we cut out the Gingys and decorated them with red and white paper clothes
and symbols of Wisconsin. After that we put them into envelopes. Last we sent
them to different states like California, Texas, New Jersey and others. Here
are two pictures of our Gingy's before we mailed them off:
We learned a lot about geography, other states and the directions we have
to go to get from one state to another. For example, we received 2 Gingys from
Texas. We used our maps to see that the Texas Gingys had to travel NE in order
to get to Wisconsin. We kept track of where all of our Gingys came from. We
colored their state on our individual USA maps. We also placed a Gingy marker
on our wall map. These are pictures of the Gingy's that we received from the
other people who also participated in the FLAT GINGERBREAD PROJECT. Each
Gingy and the writing that they sent were placed on a GINGERBREAD house made
out of a science display board.
